Really great country hotel: good sized, bright and clean rooms and a filling buffet breakfast. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. A good restaurant, bar and beer. We always stay there when visiting family and always look forwards to returning.

Ordered some cheesy chips and flat bread and hummus and both tasted like absolutely nothing. It’s not the end of the world but was just quite odd - chips were bland and soggy with cheese you could barely notice and the hummus tasted like it was just blended chickpeas with zero other ingredients, not even salt. Nice enough place and friendly staff but not sure I’d come back for a meal 😬

Had a Christmas meal on the 21st for 18 people. Staff were lovley, drinks were quick and food was devine. Amazing pub with amazing food and made our christmas extremely special.

Looks like it was fantastic in the past, but in serious need of some urgent upkeep. Bathroom was not fit to use, and room really needed re-decorating.
Worst was the plumbing issues. Hyrdolocked so the water would unexpectedly cut out completely for about 10 minutes (not great when you’re halfway through a shower).
Notified reception and they just said try later…

Definitely one of the best places to eat in Calne and the surrounding villages! The menu and food is always well thought out and put together.

Fairly basic, but friendly and spotlessly clean. Great, friendly pub downstairs.
Menu is short (mostly burgers etc, but great quality) but the fish and chips and steak allow you to avoid stuff in bread if you want.
Not a bad choice for a stopover if you're exploring the area.

New to Calne so thought I'd try.
Went for a meal on a Saturday night, so booked a table. We'll we needn't have bothered the place was empty par 2 tables.
They stuck us in the most sadest part of the restaurant.
As the place was empty we asked to move. Their courtyard looked a little busier, so we asked if we could sit out there, but you couldn't eat out there.
The menu was the sadest I've seen (for a Hotel too) consisted of 4 main meal!! 2 burgers, Fish and chips, 1 steak and a veggie option!!
We went for the fish and chips.
The food was bland but ok. The waitress came over yo ask if she could take the vinegar bootle when we finished with it for another table!! Can't belive they only had 1 bottle for the whole of the restaurant, just as well the place was empty !!
Don't think a second visit is going to happen!!

Rooms are OK but need updating especially the bathroom. The bed was comfortable. The worst thing about our stay for two nights for the calne bike meet was that on the Saturday we had arranged to spend the evening with old friends in the landsdowne to catch up and enjoy a few drinks but to our disappointment we were told the bar is closing at 9pm . When we questioned this as we were paying guests and no mention of closing early when we booked in on Friday the answer we got was ...you will just have to go to your rooms . Why would a pub/ hotel close its doors at 9pm on a Saturday night on the busiest day of the year in calne is beyond me and some of the other guests I spoke to were not amused. Fair to say we will never stay at the lansdowne again . I'm sure many more will be of the same opinion

Hotel /pub in the heart of Calne, Never stayed there so cannot comment, but a great place to pop into for a drink. They sell Arkells beer which is not a bad pint.

Oh my god where do I start… booked with Booking .com (and have received a refund) cracking the walls, dangerous PLASTIC sheeting under the carpet (huge fire risk) mattress was like a brick and no management in sight - just a bunch of young girls.
The hotel management couldn’t even be bothered to reply to my emails and messages through BDC which included photos from both stays in 2023 (1 night so didn’t complain) and photos from this current trip in 2024 SAME ROOM 207 which showed the cracks had got bigger!
BDC advised me to seek a refund which they done on my behalf and succeeded - we will never stay in this rotten dump again….
They have been reported
I wonder if they will reply to this PUBLIC rating of 1 star????

First time I have been here for years and I live in the town! Beer is good and a decent selection. A lot of money has been spent on this place in recent years.
